A.P.A.D Day 55 “Refreshing Light”
The last in this series. Once again this is a Frangipai leaf. Refreshed and cleansed by nature.
I’ve added a slight texture over this one.
Enjoy.
A.P.A.D Day 51 “Drops of Gold”
The next few APADS are taken in my backyard with the morning light filtering through the rain drops on the foliage. Makes for some pretty interesting images.
This one is a date palm leaf. The golden lights in the background are more illumniated droplets forming a cool bokeh.
Enjoy
A.P.A.D Day 50 “Bridge to Heaven”
This one is another mobile phone image and subsequently a poor quality image but it’ll have to do. I had some time to kill today while waiting for an appointment so sat at the Swansea bridge and watched the thousands of $ worth of play equiptment (A.K.A marine vessels) go through the bridge opening and off for a day of play with sun and sea. I wasn’t envious.. no not one bit. I LIE! Wow the cruiser and cat that went past were so beautiful. I love living in such a beautiful place in Lake Macquarie.
Anyway the clouds were really interesting today and looked great above the bridge. As i sat and watched it looked as if the bridge was opening to the Heavens.
Enjoy
A.P.A.D Day 49 “Chicken & Avocado”
A real basic pic taken with my mobile phone so excuse the poor quality please. Pretty self explainatory….it was my lunch. Delicious avocado and seasoned grilled chicken salad. Healthy and oh so yummy! I was testing the quality of the food at the Tollgate -the place where my son Cameron will be eating frequently while away in Sydney. Sounds like a good enough reason to ‘ do lunch’ right? Infact it was my Uncle who suggested we go there.. thanks Uncle Rick !
Enjoy . I know i did!
A.P.A.D Day 48 “ Arabian Lights ”
Finally it’s time to reveal my beautiful little treaured gift!
This is an Ancient Persian Lamp. Apparently the roosters mean its about 400 years old according to the man in the little shop in Iran who sold it. (I have tried to verify the symbols of roosters and timelines etc but no such luck.)
I totally love this little piece of history and it amazes me that i have something that dates back so far! Wow.. the 1600′s…Maybe it’s not technically that old in the grand scheme of antiquities but i’m stoked to have it. But it is a treasure: a real treasure from the Holy Land .
Thankyou again Tracy & Ken! I will always treasure my little lamp! xx
So what do you think? it’s pretty awesome right? I’ve made the decision not to polish the lamp but rather to leave it in the aged condition it is in.
Firstly i actually like the aged look about it. Makes it seem more real. And the patina protects it deteriorating as fast.
I have gently wiped it over with olive oil to get any loose surface dusts and stuff off it, and the oil helps protect it also. I also used olive oil to light the lamp for my image, as olive oil is what they have used for centuries.
I don’t intend ever lighting it again, just the once for photos is all i wanted. Now it shall find a new place to reside in a locked cabinet as soon as i sort one out!
I think i want to collect more artifacts..Yep i think i’ve always wanted to and now this little Islamic iron lamp is just the beginning!
Enjoy
A.P.A.D Day 47 “ BBQ Chicken ”
OK a silly title for this image but you have to admit it is suitable.. right? kinda? You know.. flame.. rooster..
Anyway this follow on image basically gives away what my beautiful little gift is. Yes it’s an old lamp. I bet you knew that all !
Enjoy and i’ll post the full image soon.
A.P.A.D Day 45 “ Vigilance ”
This is a closeup of one of 3 roosters adorning my little gift. The actual meaning isnt known however seing as how this is anitem fromthe Holy Land, here is one possible reason for using roosters as decoration:
In Christianity the Rooster is noted for crowing three times after Peter denied Christ. As such, it became a symbol for Christ’s passion. Later, the Rooster would signify the repentance of the saint and religious vigilance as well as resurrection.
